Diving Powell River With Alpha Dive Services
Diving Powell River with Alpha Dive Services is the best way to experience what the Powell River area on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia has to offer.
Kathy and Scott Friesen bought and expanded Alpha Dive Services in 2006, and now run Powell River's finest full service scuba diving and kayak sales and rental facility. And effective May 1, 2010, they moved to a new location that includes their bigger and better dive shop, along with the pool, restaurant and resort facilities of the Beach Gardens Resort. With Kathy being a professional business manager and Scott being a professional diver, they can ensure you have exciting and enjoyable dives in and around Powell River on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia.
They provide SDI (Scuba Diving International) and TDI (Technical Diving International) certified dive lessons, dive licences and certification, authorized dive equipment sales, service and repairs, and guided dives or dive charters for groups of 2-4 divers.
They can also hook you up with excellent charter operators if you are coming with a larger group. And after you are finished diving Powell River, they can give you a great deal on a rental kayak so you can see more of Powell River and the Sunshine Coast above the surface.
When it comes to ocean kayak sales, I noticed a great selection of kayaks from Delta Kayaks, Necky Kayaks, and Ocean Kayaks, along with a big selection of related kayak parts and service.
Some of the dives they frequent include: - Mermaid Cove and Octopus City at Saltery Bay
- Beach Gardens Marina - Grief Point - Wreck of the Malahat - Gibsons Beach - Emmonds Beach, and - Okeover Breakwater

Powell River Dive Site Reviews
Wreck of the MalahatFirst Name: Scott City: Powell River State/Prov: British Columbia Country: Canada What are you reviewing?: Dive Site Name(s): Wreck of the Malahat Rating: 4 Stars (Great!) Details (please explain why): This site is the final resting place of the Malahat. She was a 5 masted wooden hulled auxiliary schooner with a colorful history, which was covered in an episode of "The Sea Hunters." This is a great site for photos and sea life viewing. Depth ranges from 30 feet at the bow (where there is an interpretive plaque from the Underwater Archeological Society of BC) to 80 feet at the stern. There is very little of the hull structure left intact, however there are some steel fuel/water tanks located near the stern. This wreck is home to ling cod, rock fish, greenlings, perch, sea lions, octopus, loads of different types of nudibranchs and even some rock scallops. Access is from Seconds Beach in Powell River near the mill.
