RockFish Divers - First Class in British Columbia
RockFish Divers operate a full-service, PADI accredited dive resort out of the beautiful, luxurious Brentwood Bay Lodge & Spa near Victoria on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
New owners Alisa and Tyler Preston focus on smaller dive groups and offer a full range of PADI dive lessons (where you can earn your scuba diving license in Victoria), dive equipment rentals, and daily dive charters in Saanich Inlet on Vancouver Island.
They can also arrange for group charters to dive the MacKenzie artificial reef and the GB Church wreck in Sidney.
This Victoria dive site area is also ideal for their snorkel charters, and they proudly combine their dive lessons and charters with local marine eco-system awareness, environmental issues and responsible dive practices.
Some nearby dive sites that Rockfish visits have made our list as one of Vancouver Island's Best dive sites.
Rockfish Divers - Alisa and Tyler Preston
In 2013, popular Victoria area dive professionals Alisa and Tyler Preston took over Rockfish Divers.
Alisa is a dive instructor who, in addition to her work at Rockfish Divers, currently collaborates with the nearby popular Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre in Sidney, training their scientific divers and helping with their catch, display and release program.
Her goal is to not only provide quality Victoria area dive charters and dive lessons, but to also train and promote well-rounded divers and ocean-loving-enthusiasts who safely explore and respect our amazing underwater world.
Tyler is a PADI Course Director (scuba instructor trainer) with more than 10 years of varied management experience before he turned his attention to developing and training scuba divers in British Columbia.
He has a clear passion for combining academics and diving while sharing his love of our underwater world. This passion is evident in all his dive courses and at Cooldives we certainly recommend Rockfish Divers for Victoria area scuba diving lessons and upgrades.
Diving in Saanich Inlet on Vancouver Island
Saanich Inlet offers divers of all levels and interests an ideal setting for diving in BC.
The Inlet is sheltered, generally has very good visibility, and has interesting marine life at all depths, which is great for beginner to expert divers.
While there are many interesting shore dives and boat dives in the area, three favorite dives include:
- White lady (which offers a playful seal colony, depths for all levels of divers, and lots of marine life),
- McCurdy Point (which is a beautiful wall dive with lots to see at all levels, and has some of the area's famous cloud sponges),
- Christmas Point (which is a beautiful wall dive with lots to see at all levels, and has some of the area's famous cloud sponges at around 100')
- and Senanus (which is a beautiful but deep dive for more advanced divers and is the best place in the area to see the local cloud sponges).
Also at Their Dive Facility....
Besides the intimate dive lessons and charter services they offer at the Brentwood Bay Lodge and Spa, which is only around 15 minutes away from downtown Victoria, Victoria International Airport and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal, there are also the following amenities:
- snorkeling services
- eco-adventure marine tours
- ocean kayak rentals
- a marina and related services
- a luxury spa
- terrific seafood restaurant,
- and a fun pub for after your diving
The Loup de Mer - Rockfish Dive Charter Boat.
Rockfish Divers also has their own 30 foot aluminum dive boat which they use for Victoria area daily dive charters.
In addition to loads of power, the dive boat has plenty of room out back for up to 8 divers to gear up in the back, and a heated cabin for their 'cooler' diving days.
There is also a small marine head, as well as the standard emergency gear.
Dive charters in the Saanich Inlet run daily and are available for Lodge guests as well as other divers.
They also can be booked for dive charters to the nearby Gulf Islands if you give them enough advance notice.
After your dives, there is a rinse station for your dive gear on the dock, and warm showers are available in the marina.
In addition to professional dive lessons, they have good quality scuba equipment rentals, including sea-scooters which I would love to try!
The staff are all very friendly and hard working, and even if you can't book the famous CoolDives Stay, Play and Dive Package, I recommend you at least spend one day diving with them.
A quote from a recent CoolDives referral:
"I have to say a huge "Thank you" to Rockfish Divers, who put up with all the gear we dragged on and off the boat, and who really went above and beyond to get us out to dive today, when it really wasn't easy.
To work as hard as they did for just the two of us was pretty amazing service."
